Oh guys, I’ve saved the very best for last!
Brooklyn turned out to be a vegan food-lover’s paradise.
One of the last days in NYC my sister and I skipped breakfast and jumped on the subway to Brooklyn to go for a late, big, long brunch.
Brunch time seemed to be the ideal time for Champs Diner, the place is always packed for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
My love for a certain vegan diner is so great it’s almost impossible to put into words. For an European like me the place looked exactly what I picture an all-Amarican diner and the portion sizes even exeeded my expectations. We ordered our food after obsessing over the menu for as long as we could justify to ourselves (and the waiters).
And then the food arrived…a stack of thick, light and fluffy Amarican-style s’mores pankaces, a juicy, perfectly seasoned bacon cheeseburger (melted, dripping cheese and all) and a thick and creamy cookie dough shake.
Just a little warning though, the shakes are kind of like a whole meal by themselves. Oh so delicious but super rich and filling. We struggled to finish our food but definetly didn’t want any of it to go to waste.
Satisfied and with full bellies we ventured on, strolling along Brooklyn’s colorfull, graffitied streets. The next day we drove down to Coney Island, where we found it rather hard to believe we were still in Brooklyn, NYC instead of at a beach in California. Coney Island has been inviting people to jump on a rollercoaster ride for over 100 years now and the food stalls offer a variety of ‘accidentally vegan’ treats and snacks such as snow cones, cotton candy and potato knishes.
In the evening a friend took us to an amazing vegan Ethopian restaurant, the Bunna Cafe.
Unfortunately the place was too dark for me to take photos. Poor lighting = shitty photos, you know.
We shared the 7 dishes ‘feast’. You eat the dishes with a sourdough flatbread called Injera, no cutlery needed. The food was increadible and I highly recommend going for the ‘feast’, just make sure to bring enough appetite.
Also, get the Espris drink! It’s layered pureed mango, avocado and papaya juice, delicious and possibly the prettiest drink I’ve ever layed my eyes on.
That’s it from me for now.
